How Much Tax Does Roblox Take? The 30% Fee Explained (2026)

Roblox takes 30% of game pass, developer product and private server sales, so the seller keeps 70%. A 1,000 Robux sale pays the seller 700 Robux. Players call the 30% fee the “Roblox tax”, but it is a platform fee charged by Roblox Corporation, not a government tax.
Which sales the 30% fee covers
The 30% Roblox fee applies to 3 common sale types inside Roblox experiences:
- Game passes: one-time purchases that unlock a feature, such as VIP access or a speed boost.
- Developer products: repeatable purchases, such as in-game currency, revives or boosts.
- Private servers: paid access to a private copy of an experience.
Avatar items use a different split
Avatar items pay the item creator 30% of the price, not 70%. Roblox splits each avatar item sale 3 ways: 30% to the creator, 40% to the seller and 30% as the platform fee.
| Where the avatar item sells | Item creator | Seller share (40%) | Platform fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Avatar Marketplace | 30% | Roblox | 30% |
| Inside another experience | 30% | Experience owner | 30% |
A 100 Robux shirt sold in the Avatar Marketplace pays its creator 30 Robux. The same shirt sold inside another creator’s experience still pays its creator 30 Robux, and the experience owner receives 40 Robux.
Is the Roblox tax 30% or 40%?
The Roblox tax is 30%. The “40%” figure that appears in some guides is the seller share on avatar items, which goes to Roblox or the experience owner, not an extra tax. Game passes, developer products and private servers all pay the seller 70%.
Who pays the Roblox tax?
The seller pays the Roblox tax. The buyer pays the listed price, and Roblox takes the 30% out of the seller’s share before the Robux arrive. A buyer who spends 500 Robux on a game pass spends 500 Robux, not 650.
How to calculate Robux after tax
Robux after tax = price × 0.7, rounded down. Roblox rounds the seller’s share down to a whole Robux, so a 25 Robux sale pays 17 Robux, not 17.5.
| Sale price | Roblox fee | Seller receives |
|---|---|---|
| 10 R$ | 3 R$ | 7 R$ |
| 25 R$ | 8 R$ | 17 R$ |
| 100 R$ | 30 R$ | 70 R$ |
| 250 R$ | 75 R$ | 175 R$ |
| 1,000 R$ | 300 R$ | 700 R$ |
| 10,000 R$ | 3,000 R$ | 7,000 R$ |
The Robux tax calculator works out any amount and shows the DevEx value of the Robux you keep.
How to price around the fee
Price = Robux you want ÷ 0.7, rounded up. A creator who wants 1,000 Robux per sale sets the price to 1,429 Robux. Common targets:
| Robux you want | Price to set |
|---|---|
| 100 R$ | 143 R$ |
| 500 R$ | 715 R$ |
| 1,000 R$ | 1,429 R$ |
| 30,000 R$ | 42,858 R$ |
The game pass tax calculator does this in both directions.
PLS DONATE donations
A PLS DONATE donation pays the booth owner 70%. Each donation is a purchase of the booth owner’s game pass, so the same 30% Roblox fee applies, and PLS DONATE does not take an extra cut. A 1,000 Robux donation pays 700 Robux. The PLS DONATE tax calculator shows any donation.
What the Robux you keep are worth in AUD
Earned Robux turn into money through the Roblox Developer Exchange (DevEx), which needs at least 30,000 earned Robux. Roblox uses 3 DevEx rates:
- Standard rate: US$0.0038 per Robux. 700 Robux pay US$2.66.
- U.S. 18+ rate: US$0.0054 per Robux, from 8 June 2026, for qualifying sales to age-verified U.S. players aged 18 or older.
- Legacy rate: US$0.0035 per Robux, for balances earned before 5 September 2025.
The DevEx calculator converts earned Robux to US dollars and Australian dollars at today’s exchange rate.
The Roblox fee and income tax are separate
The 30% Roblox fee comes out in Robux at the moment of sale. Income tax is a second, separate question: DevEx payouts can count as assessable income for the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). Keep a record of each DevEx payout and the exchange rate on the payment day, and ask a registered tax agent about your situation.
